Golden sunlight shines on the rocks, sailboats, and the Ram Island Lighthouse in Ocean Point, Maine. Photography Tip: The human eye loves contrast and warm saturated colors. I added interest to the rocks in the foreground when I enhanced this image using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and the Nik Color Efex Pro utility from Google. I can drive your attention to the area where I want your eye to go in this type of seascape image by careful controlling the saturation and tonal contrast. Sunrise colors fill the sky as day begins over Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Photography Tip: Find a strong colorful foreground. Gorgeous skies are great but you need something of interest along the bottom edge of the frame to balance out the composition. This is especially true when shooting landscapes with wide-angle lenses. When processing your landscape images make sure that your dominant foreground elements "pop." Emphasize textures, sharpness, contrast, and saturation the most where you want the viewer's eye to go. This is one of the locations that we will visit this October during my *Coastal Maine Photography Workshop* at the Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa. Sunset begins above the rocky coast of Maine. Sunset colors reflect around the seaweed and kelp covered rocks of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Photography Tip: Get low when working with wide-angle lenses. My mantra is that the wider the lens, the lower I must position the camera to keep my foreground prominent and interesting. These rocks were super slippery but only by getting down on my knees could I make them into a dominant part of the composition. This is one of the locations that we will visit this October during my *Coastal Maine Photography Workshop* at the Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa. Sunset illuminates round boulders and pebbles beside the Atlantic Ocean in Acadia National Park, Maine. Photography Tip: When you are shooting with a wide angle lens get really close to your subject. The wider the lens, the more important it becomes to include something "weighty" in your foreground. You need something fascinating to grab your viewer's eye right up close to the camera. Sunset over the small harbor at Squirrel Island in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Photography Tip: If you are going to shoot directly into the sun then try closing your lens down to its smallest aperture. Shooting directly into the rising or setting sun with your smallest aperture will create a starburst flare pattern. To make this effect more noticeable try to hide the majority of the sun behind a solid object. Hiding part of the sun minimizes the pure white hole that it creates in your photo and it makes the starburst pattern more pronounced. This is one of the locations that we will visit this October during my *Coastal Maine Photography Workshop* at the Spruce Point Inn Resort & Spa. Night begins along the rocky coast of Maine. Photography Tip: I love the way that ocean water blurs with a long exposure. When I am shooting this kind of composition, I go looking for the right mix of blurred and stationary objects. I try to find places where there is lots of wave action and some big solid rocks to create visual contrast between the still and the moving parts of the scene. Beach roses bloom along the rocky shore at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in Bristol, Maine. Photography Tip: When shooting in popular public spaces with crowds look for foregrounds that hide all of the visitors. I chose this particular angle in part so that the beach roses would create color and interest on the bottom half of my frame. I also chose this spot though because all that foliage hides all of the other visitors and gives the scene an empty peaceful feeling. Dusk settles in along the rocky shoreline of Acadia National Park, Maine. Photography Tip: Shiny reflective surfaces like these amazing boulders look their best when they are wet.
